Uploading Files
Add files to your workspace using drag and drop or the file picker.
In addition to creating rich text editor documents, you can upload files of any type directly into the Documents app. Uploaded files live alongside editor documents in the same folder structure and benefit from the same permissions, tagging, and project integration features.
Drag and Drop Upload
The fastest way to upload files is to drag them directly from your computer onto the Documents app. A blue overlay will appear indicating where files will be uploaded. When you drop, a review dialog lets you confirm what will be uploaded before the transfer starts.
Uploading Files
- Click the + button in the file tree toolbar
- Select Upload Files — your operating system's file picker opens immediately
- Choose one or more files
There is no in-app dropzone or destination selector for plain file uploads: files upload to the folder you invoked the action from and stream through the global upload tray.
Uploading a Folder
To bring in an entire folder tree (subfolders and all):
- Click the + button and select Upload Folder
- Pick the folder in your operating system's picker
- Review the detected folder structure in the review dialog, then confirm
The folder hierarchy is recreated inside the Documents tree.
Upload Progress
During upload, you'll see:
- Individual progress bars for each file
- Completion status indicators (green checkmark for success)
- Error messages if any uploads fail
Handling Duplicates
When you upload a file with the same name as an existing file in the same folder, the new upload is automatically added as a new version of that file. This happens silently — there is no duplicate-warning dialog to confirm.
This auto-versioning means you can update files simply by uploading a new copy with the same filename.
File Size Limits
By default, files can be up to 100 MB in size. Administrators can adjust this limit in the workspace settings under Settings > General > Files.
Supported File Types
The Documents app supports all common file types including:
| Category | Extensions |
|---|---|
| Documents | PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, RTF |
| Spreadsheets | XLS, XLSX, CSV |
| Presentations | PPT, PPTX |
| Images | JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, WEBP |
| Videos | MP4, MOV, AVI, WEBM |
| Other | ZIP, RAR, JSON, XML |
Uploaded files appear in the file tree with type-specific icons and are automatically assigned the appropriate document type (PDF, Image, Video, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or File).
